Sarcopenia FAQs

Our focus is improving quality of life for adults over age 50 — without limitations.

Vitality SarcoHealth is empowering people to restore their vitality and age freely while reducing the risk of falls and fractures, osteoporosis, acute and chronic pain, and other health-related issues associated with Sarcopenia.

Here are some of the questions people ask frequently:

Why did you change your name?

A close translation of the Greek word for “flesh” is “sarco” – and we have been on the forefront of developing proprietary Sarcopenia-focused diagnostic and treatment protocols for more than two decades. Our aim has always been to restore “sarco” health. As the company is staging for additional growth, we decided it was time to consolidate our Arizona, Texas and any future operations under a new name that reflects our core purpose – Vitality SarcoHealth!

What is Sarcopenia?

Sarcopenia is a medical condition — the progressive loss of muscle mass and strength — that affects most adults over age 50. It is formally recognized by the American Medical Association as a potentially serious health-related disease, progressively reducing muscle mass, muscular strength and physical function.

Why is Sarcopenia such a problem for older adults?

Sarcopenia has been shown to be the primary cause of falls and premature loss of independence for older adults. It is also considered to be a root cause of a plethora of so-called age-related diseases including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and arthritis.

The good news is that even severe losses of muscle and strength due to Sarcopenia is preventable, treatable, reversible at any age!

Remember when your quality of life wasn’t dictated by physical limitations? Let us show you how to get back to that place.

Why focus on Sarcopenia?

We focus on Sarcopenia because more than two decades of strong, peer reviewed scientific research and clinical evidence compels us to believe that preventing and stopping Sarcopenia is the single best way to ensure a positive aging experience.

What is SarcoHealth?

SarcoHealth is the proprietary process we have developed to begin the recovery of lost muscle and physical functionality due to Sarcopenia. It is the outcome from the science-based services and protocols available only through Vitality SarcoHealth Clinics.

How do I know if I have Sarcopenia?

At Vitality SarcoHealth, we have spent many years perfecting the process for measuring Sarcopenia. Each location is equipped with the most advanced, non-invasive diagnostic technology and is staffed with specially trained experts who provide comprehensive screenings, risk-assessments and evaluations.

What do I do if I have Sarcopenia?

At Vitality SarcoHealth, we provide a range of scientifically-proven services based on the vast benefits of muscle and strength regeneration. There’s no need to ask your doctor for a referral, we take care of that for you. You can also schedule a no-obligation SarcoHealth Screening at any time to determine if you could benefit from SarcoTherapy or one of our ongoing SarcoHealth Plans.

What if I’m concerned that my parent or an older family member or friend might have Sarcopenia?

Please schedule a no-obligation SarcoHealth Screening for them as soon as possible. Sarcopenia is a dangerous, progressive disease, so generally, the earlier your loved one begins treatment (or prevention), the better off they will be.

What is a SarcoTherapist?

SarcoTherapists are specially-trained professionals available only at Vitality SarcoHealth Clinics, whose expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of Sarcopenia. All SarcoTherapists at Vitality SarcoHealth are licensed physical therapists or physical therapist assistants.

How long does it take to see results?

Many of our patients report noticeable and measurable improvement within the first few weeks. These changes can include increased physical strength, pain reduction and greater stability. SarcoTherapy starts with 2-3 hours per week and reduces to less than one hour per week for SarcoHealth maintenance after 3-4 months, on average.

What equipment to you use?

Each Vitality SarcoHealth Clinic is equipped with industry-leading computerized technology to provide the most accurate muscle, strength and performance measurements available today.

Is a Vitality SarcoHealth Clinic the same as a gym?

No. Each individual patient, and every small group of patients, is personally supervised by a trained SarcoTherapist.

Vitality SarcoHealth Clinics provide a more autonomy-supportive, intimate, spa-like environment with specialized equipment that is more technologically advanced than the machines you would normally find in a local gym.

What happens during a SarcoHealth Screening?

Individuals and couples may schedule a SarcoHealth Screening. During the visit, a SarcoHealth specialist will ask a variety of questions centered on you and what’s important to you. There will be an explanation of Sarcopenia, and some quick and painless measurements of your current muscle mass, function and upper and lower body strength.

The screening is extremely thorough and can take up to 45 minutes.

You will leave with an understanding of where you stand compared with other people your age and whether you are a candidate for SarcoTherapy or SarcoHealth.

Please download our Enrollment Packet PDF and have your forms already filled out when you arrive for your appointment to save time.

What if I don’t do anything to address my Sarcopenia symptoms?

Progression of the disease is associated with an increased risk of:

  • Osteopenia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Falls and Fractures
  • Certain Cancers
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Heart Disease
  • Cognitive Decline
  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes

The good news is that research has shown the progression of sarcopenia can be delayed and even reversed given proper interventions.

At Vitality SarcoHealth, we continue to lead scientific studies to develop the most up-to-date, evidence-proven and technology-backed solutions to help you overcome Sarcopenia.
